Railway minister Piyush Goyal Thursday said the government would set up five hi-speed corridors across the country. Goyal was also confident of meeting the timeline for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project including the process of land acquisition through consensus. The free wi-fi services currently in 707 railways stations will be extended to 5,000 including remote stations to extend the services to villagers, he explained. There are 6,000 railways stations and about 1,800 halt stations across country. Promising 100 per cent electrification of railways by 2023, he said: At present, 40 per cent railways is electrified. Simultaneously, diesel and coal would be phased out with solar power.
