DoT may club cases to bring down litigation

The Department of Telecommunications is taking steps to reduce litigation in the sector by seeking to club nine cases pertaining to one-time spectrum charges of ₹25,000 crore that are pending in various courts. We have sought legal opinion from the law secretary on making a proposal for transferring these cases, a senior DoT official told. The department and the industry are battling over almost ₹80,000 crore that the DoT claims are due from the sector. The government has said the new telecom policy captures all these concerns, including the need to reduce litigation.
